Expect More Arizona’s Excellence Tour is a way for schools to showcase how they are helping students succeed. The Excellence Tour panel voted Heritage Elementary as one of this year’s winners because of their exceptional work with the Common Core Standards. Heritage will receive a $1,000 cash prize from Expect More Arizona to help continue the great work that is currently taking place.

Channel 12 News visited Heritage Elementary to see students honor Martin Luther King, Jr. during their basketball shootout tournament. Students shared their favorite Martin Luther King, Jr. quotes during halftime and the quotes were also displayed in the school’s lobby. Heritage Elementary Athletic Director, Troy Miletta said the basketball tournament was a way for students to drop barriers because when they are on the court they are all on the same level.

Educators for Higher Standards headlined three Heritage teachers in their Teacher Champion Blog. They were featured for their support of the Common Core Standards and their positive quotes about the standards were posted on the blog.

Heritage Elementary was featured by Expect More Arizona for their success with the Common Core Standards. They were highlighted for providing extensive training for the teachers and being able to regularly assess students to track their academic progress.
