Arizonans are typically familiar with their environment—both the dangers and the wonders—though sometimes residents can be so comfortable in their desert home that they can forget or overlook the little behaviors and habits, which can prove to be real lifesavers.
Our conservation efforts hit full swing this summer.
While summertime might be considered the “off-season” for some who call Glendale, and the Phoenix Metro Area home, not all the area’s residents move with the seasons. And, as the temperatures rise, so do the opportunities for some cherished family time.
The last day of school is fast approaching, for that reason we wanted to make everyone aware of the amazing opportunities we have planned for the summer.
Show your true colors and run or walk through vibrant pops of color and get tie-dyed for a good cause. It is an engaging recreational event for families, and the community at-large. We invite you all to join us for a joyful Saturday full of laughing and recreation. All proceeds from the Color Run benefit Heritage Elementary Charter School in Glendale.
The first week of May is Teacher Appreciation. We invite all families to thank the teachers for the hard work they do all year long. Thank you notes and emails are a great way to make your child’s teacher feel appreciated. If you are able, we hope you’ll participate in our Teacher Appreciation Week. Also don’t forget about Teacher Appreciation Night at Peter Piper. See the flyer for more information.
The end of the school year is nearing and with that in mind, our annual Parent Survey is here. We encourage you to answer the questionnaire which seeks to learn more about your and your student’s experiences this school year. Your insights are extremely useful and your participation is greatly appreciated.
Career day can a be great resource for helping children develop informed opinions about their futures. Kids begin forming career aspirations as early as elementary school, and according to some research, some adults find themselves in the career they decided on before they turned 12. Programs like career day offer children a variety of choices—both, familiar and potentially unknown—and often include information like the skills needed and methods of joining certain careers.
Presenters at career day programs can often ignite a child’s imagination and spark a desire to follow a well-loved idea or forge a brand new path.
This week is spirit week. Show your school spirit and creativity with fun and inspired outfits that fit the theme days listed in the flyer. Remember: April 12 is picture day for students being promoted.
Spring testing signals the close of the school year and can be a stressful time for all involved—students, parents, teacher, and school administrators and staff. During the week of March 28, students, from grade 3 up, across the state of Arizona will be taking the AzMERIT test; 4th and 8th graders will also be taking the AIMS Science Test.
The Deadline Looms
April 15 traditionally closes tax season every year. If you haven’t filed yet, there is still time to earn the 2015 Arizona school tax credit. Arizona law (ARS 43-1098.01) allows tax payers to receive a tax credit of up to $400 for donations that benefit students in public schools. This credit lowers your state tax debt dollar for dollar.
March is Women’s History Month, and the 2016 theme, as stated in the title of this feature, is dedicated to honoring women in public service and government. This month typically features events and efforts to recognize and focus on the contributions of women and their “consistently overlooked and undervalued” roles in national and world history. The inroads and work of women in government and activism is sometimes missed and outright ignored, especially when their attention is focused on achieving actionable goals rather than recognition.
